When You Need To Surrender | 3 Tips To Laying It At His Feet

I have been lucky enough to not have to struggle with anxiety. Sure, I’ve felt anxious before a big presentation or something especially nerve wracking. But I’ve never felt the take over your body sensation that anxiety brings.

Until recently.

Some recent life events have caused me to feel anxiety like I’ve never felt before. And I have to say it is not fun, I don’t like it whatsoever.

I’m normally really good at coping with whatever life has to throw at me, but this feels so out of my control. And thus, the anxiety has set in, because there is nothing I can do but wait.

So here I am, forced to relinquish the control I imagine I have over my life. Trying to find peace in the waiting.

And what I’ve come to realize, is that there’s no use trying to control the situation. Peace is coming by surrendering it all to Him.

I wanted to share some things that have been helping me keep the anxiety in check. So here are three tips to surrender it all in the midst of anxiety.

1. Remember who’s in control

If you’re like me, you think you can be in control of your own life. I often think that I can do everything by my own power, like I’m the one who makes things happen. But when I shift my perspective and remember that I’m not the one with that power, it’s a little easier to find peace. Because I know that it’s not up to me. I can trust that God is going to take care of the situation because He has immense knowledge of all parts of it.

2. Immerse yourself in His Truth

I have definitely noticed that if I am not reading the Word, I’m struggling more. It’s so important to arm yourself against your anxiety. Make sure that you carve out time in your day to pray and read Scripture. Memorize verses that bring you peace and place them around your house as a reminder of who He is and what He promises. When I am immersed in His Truth it’s so much easier for me to remember that He is in control.

3. He is good no matter what

I don’t know what your situation with anxiety is, but I can tell you that no matter what happens He is still good. I know this is a common thing to say these days, but it is completely and totally true. He can see things from a completely different view and He knows how it’s all going to work for His glory. Sometimes there will be pain, sometimes there will be joy. In either situation, He is there and He is good.

Now, I am by no means an expert at surrender, if I think too long on the situation the anxiety comes creeping back. But I am slowly learning to kneel at His feet and surrender it all to Him. I hope that these simple tips can help you in your journey as well.
