Do you ever have those days where you feel tired to the bone, and the house needs cleaned, and dinner needs made and there doesn’t seem to be enough energy for anything else? Well, I’ve been having one of those weeks. I know reading my bible is important, but I just don’t feel like it.
Maybe it’s this sickness that has been hanging around, but I just haven’t had energy for much of anything. As a result, my time spent with God has been suffering greatly. I leave it for last and honestly haven’t been getting around to it much at all. But I notice on the days that I force myself to sit down and create in my bible, I have a feeling of refreshment and a little burst of energy.
It’s really easy to decide to do something else instead, especially something mindless like watching Netfilx or scrolling through Pinterest. These things don’t take much effort or energy. But they aren’t life giving. These things don’t build you up in your faith or help you grow like being in the Word does.
It’s hard to make that initial effort to start when I don’t feel like it, but I always know that the reward will be so much greater! Spending time with God never feels like wasted time. I will never regret the times that I have spent painting in my bible, meditating on His word and conversing with Him. The Word feeds our souls, gives us hope, and teaches us His ways.
I wonder if you have the same struggles? If you do, the Psalms are a good place to read. The Psalms are some of the most relatable scriptures in my opinion. They are all about people calling out to God, in whatever situation they find themselves, the good and the bad. My prayer for you is that you would find the motivation to open your bible and take in what God has for you, even if you don’t feel like it.
God, we ask for your Spirit to wash over our weary souls. Give us your strength to turn from the worthless things that take up space in our day-to-day. Give us life through the power of your Word! Amen.
What do you do to help motivate yourself to get in the word?
