Do you ever get a feeling that you’re just not where you want to be with God? You don’t feel close to Him? Does that feeling stop you from doing certain things because you think you’re not good enough?
I’m sure we can all relate to these feelings on some level.
When I first discovered bible journaling I was entranced! I absolutely loved the idea of using my creative skills in my bible. But I felt like I couldn’t. I felt like a fraud. I felt like if I posted pictures I would be portraying some fake version of myself. One that actually spent time in the Word.
At the time I was struggling to find passion in reading the scriptures. I would try to read, but to be honest, I was bored. I wasn’t finding a connection to God by reading.
When I took the leap, I started creating on the pages of some of my favorite verses. And to be completely honest, it was more about creating the art at that time than engaging with what I was reading.
But I think that’s okay! We all have to start somewhere right? The phrase “fake it till you make it ” comes to mind.
It has now been two and a half years since I stumbled upon bible journaling. And I can truly say that my relationship with God has taken on a whole new identity. I love my morning devotional time. I look forward to it even! There is a noticeable difference in my day if I don’t start with Scripture. I honestly never dreamed that something like bible journaling could change my whole view of reading the bible and engaging with the creator.
These pictures are of some of my first pages. While I feel like I was being a fake, I know now that God was using that time to pull me closer to Him. He was whispering to my heart of His love and drawing me closer with each page.
I hope this is an encouragement to you! We all have to start somewhere right? Sometimes we feel like we’re being fake, but those lies come from Satan. He wants us to believe them so we stay out of God’s Word. It’s better for him if we don’t find ways to engage. He doesn’t want us to find out the truth. And that truth is that anytime we spend in our bible is bringing us closer to Him. Any way that we find to build a relationship with our creator is worth doing.
Don’t believe the lies Satan tells you. It doesn’t matter where you are in your relationship with God. The times when you don’t feel close to Him and the perfect times to dive into The Word! Take the leap! Grab some supplies, find your favorite verse, and commune with God!
