When you first start bible journaling all the blank pages can be a little daunting. Where to start? Should I color over the words? What supplies should I use? But once you get started it’s hard to stop! Soon your bible starts filling up with tabs and ribbons and watercolor crinkled pages. One day you’ll reach a point where your bible doesn’t quite shut anymore.
This begs the question, when is the right time to start a new bible? I’ve got two theories on the subject.
Theory One
The first theory is the obvious one and that is that your bible is so full that you can’t really fit anything more in it. Your bible doesn’t come close to shutting. Most of your pages have beautiful art and prayers written all over them. When you go looking for a specific passage you’ve either already journaled about it or journaled another passage on that page.
These are all great signs that you’re ready to move on to a new bible! Which is awesome cause the fun now starts fresh again! You get the opportunity to choose a different kind of bible or maybe a new kind of faith journaling all together!
Theory Two
My second theory is a little less straightforward. This idea takes a little more thought and intuition. I would say another great reason to start a new bible is that you’ve entered a new season in life. Maybe the Lord has been walking you through a specific experience or lesson and now you feel like you’re moving out of it. As you’ve been hearing from the Lord you’ve journaled your prayers about this specific season and what you’ve learned.
This bible may not be full to the brim, but you want to set it aside as a keepsake from this time in your life. As a remembrance of what God has walked you through. I haven’t personally done this, but I think it would be a really special keepsake to be able to look back on and remember that God is good and is there to lead us through anything.
I had my first bible for about 2 years before I decided to get a new one. It wasn’t quite filled up, there was still plenty of room for more love. But Leah and I were just starting Faith Heirlooms and I wanted to mark the beginning of something new with a fresh bible. I guess in a way it was a little bit related to my second theory. That bible now holds the thoughts and prayers of the beginning of our Faith Heirlooms journey. That one filled up quickly and I had to get a new bible out of necessity.
At the end of the day, it really comes down to personal preference. Everyone has different ideas of when is the right time to start a new journaling bible. If you’re thinking it may be time to get a new one but you aren’t quite sure, I hope this helps out a little bit.
