Happy weekend ladies!
This weekend I’m coming at ya with a post on mixed media bible journaling. Most of the pages we do are a type of art called mixed media. If you’re not familiar with that term it is art utilizing more than one type of medium. Such as acrylic paint, ribbons, stickers and ephemera all used on one page.
If you’re new to the art scene, this may seem a little overwhelming to use all these things all at once. But I’m here to tell you that mixed media art is not as intimidating as it may seem. And to help you get more comfortable with it, I have an awesome freebie for you to practice on a small scale!
Our prayer girls in a blank format are the perfect way for you to practice using more than one medium at a time. I’ll walk you through all the different mediums I used for each girl.
All the girls have watercolor hair. I liked the idea of using watercolors for the hair because it is really easy to layer the color to make some parts lighter and other parts darker. If I used acrylics I would have had to mix colors to get the different tones, and I didn’t want to spend the time doing that. All my girls have pretty normal hair colors, but you can do whatever color you want! One thing I will note about using the watercolors is that if you put too much water and go over it too much it makes the printer ink run, as you can see on the girl with the + shirt.
For the shirts, I did three different things. I used watercolor, acrylic, and washi tape. The first two are pretty self explanatory. For the washi tape, I put as many strips as it took to cover the whole shirt area. Then used an exacto knife to cut out the shirt. The washi tape girls are the two stripes and the + shirts.
Once I had the main parts colored in with different mediums, I had some fun with embellishments! I used washi to make a bow on one. Another bow was made out of some thin yarn. I gave one girl a headband with some sparkly ribbon. And finally I used some other ribbon type material to add some fun to one of the girls’ shirt.
I hope if your a little hesitant to use more than one medium at a time that you will download these prayer girls and give it a try! It’s really easy and so much fun to mix it up!
