Hi there Friends! Leah here with today’s blog. I hope you are doing well! I’m finally seeing the light at the end of the tunnel as I’m almost done with my school job for the summer. But Jacob and I are also in the process of buying our first home and moving, so that’s been a bit hectic. In spite of the chaos, I’m excited to bring you some fun ideas on how to make use of your scrapbook paper or tip-ins in your journaling bible.
Do you ever start to notice that you’ve gotten in a creative rut? Using the same supplies over and over, and neglecting others that you’re lacking inspiration to use?
As I’ve begun packing up my craft supplies for our big move, I’ve realized my collection of scrapbook paper has gone relatively unused in the years since I began Bible Journaling. It’s rather unfortunate as there a plenty of ways to make use of it! In an effort to remedy that, I wanted to use it more. I thought I’d share how I do that with you all. Plus, I’ve added a freebie to our library – Printable Scrappy Tip-ins! And of course because one color option is never enough, I made three different versions.
Alright so you have a stash of scrapbook paper, unused tip-ins/journaling cards, or perhaps you’ve just printed off the free tip-ins from our library. What can you do to make use of that in your Bible?
#1 Prayer Flaps
First off you can take tip-ins and use them in the traditional sense. Taping only one side down so you can write underneath and add prayers, etc. Then you can lift the flap to reveal the prayer when you go back to look at the page. This could also be done with scrapbook paper if cut down to the right size. You could even make them in a variety of shapes with your scrapbook paper (hearts, circles, polygons…)
Personally, I like to layer my tip-ins with other printables or die-cuts to make them a little more exciting. It’s kind of like creating a little background to emphasize the image I’ve chosen to use.
#2 Tabs
The next thing you can do with your scrapbook paper or tip-ins is tabs! I have a tab cutter that I love to use, but even without one you can hand cut the tab shape, or get creative and cut more unique shapes if desired.
*Tab cutter tip – if you fold your paper over and leave the folded side slightly below the top of the tab cutter, you can create double sided tabs so you don’t have just a plain white backside.
This can be a fun way to make unique tabs for each page you create. Then you can either hand write your topic or even use small stickers.
#3 Letters or Shapes
Finally, my favorite use for scrapbook paper and tip-ins: letters and shapes. Using a pencil sketch or trace out the shapes of bubble letters or other shapes and cut them out of the scrapbook paper or tip-in. Use the same paper for a whole word, or mix and match for an eclectic look.
*Note to self…and others: You’ll want to draw your shape on the patterned side otherwise your letters will turn out backwards, which might get confusing. That’s why I use a pencil so I can erase any lines after I’ve cut.
I love to take my micron pen or white gelly roll pen and add some lines around the edge of each letter to emphasize it.
Well there you have it. Three ways to make more use of your scrapbook paper and tip-ins. Do you use scrapbook paper and tip-ins in a different way? Comment below and let us know what we should try next.
