Happy Friday everyone! Leah here to bring you part two of our bible journaling essentials series.
First things first, if you haven’t read about Jeanna’s 7 Bible journaling essentials from last week’s blog, take a quick break and go read that – don’t forget to come back though.
Now you’ve done that, can I take a minute to say… Jeanna stole all my favorites! If I had written my blog first I would have had pretty much the same list (except the stapler, which is on my wish-list, in case anyone wants to get me an early birthday gift).
It’s ok though, I won’t hold it against her because I’m definitely not a minimalist when it comes to bible journaling supplies. I mean, don’t get me wrong, it’s not like you NEED all these things to create in your Bible, but they sure are fun. So it wasn’t all that hard for me to come up with 7 more things I love to use when I journal in my Bible . So without further ado let’s get into it!
Leah’s Top 7 Bible Journaling Essentials:
These are one of my favorite supplies because you can use them to write without using your own handwriting. It’s very useful if you are self-conscious about how you write or if you just want a different font that you cannot personally handwrite. Currently, I am loving the Doodlebug Teensey Type stickers. I refuse to admit how many backup sheets of these I have in my possession. To my defense – they were on sale.
2) Stamps | 1 | 2 | *
Stamps are another thing I love to use when I don’t want to write/draw things myself. All I have to say is go to the Target and Michaels dollar bins. Stamps can be pricey but they can also be super affordable if you know where to look! I use my date stamp from the Target dollar bins almost every time I do a page. Alphabet stamps can also often be found in the dollar bins and they are the perfect tiny size for your Bible. One thing I’ve learned is that there are other things to use with stamps besides ink – acrylic paint, gelatos, sharpie paint pens. Ink tends to bleed through pages more than any of these other mediums so I prefer to use these rather than an ink pad.
3) Martha Stewart Glue Pen*
I’m not brand loyal here – any glue pen of a similar variety will work. I just love the small ball point nib it comes out of. It’s very precise which is great for gluing down smaller items or items with pointed edges where the double sided tape is too wide. Just make sure you don’t get it anywhere you don’t want glue because it will stick your pages together. I learned that the hard way.
4) Tab Puncher*
I LOVE this tool. It makes it so easy to create cute tabs to mark the pages I have done in my Bible. I’ve used it with pretty scrapbook paper, painted my own paper and cut out tabs, and it even fits perfectly with the tabs in our shop (wink wink). I use double sided sticky tape like Jeanna mentioned, my glue pen or washi tape to stick it to my page and they always add a fun touch.
5) Sharpie Paint Pens*
These are some of my favorite pens to use in my bible, besides the micron pens. Different from regular sharpie markers – these are filled with an oil based paint. These do not bleed through the thin pages of my Bible which is a major plus and they are also waterproof once dry. They come in different thicknesses so you can write/draw thick lines or thin lines. My only complaint about these markers is that they don’t come in nearly enough color variety – but then again nothing does for me.
6) Reeves Watercolor Crayons*
Aside from regular watercolors these are my favorite way to add some color to my Bible pages. These are waxy crayons that are water soluble. This means they can act like a regular crayon of you want or if you add water they will begin to blend and look more like watercolors. These are fun because you can play with the intensity of the color and the look you want to get. You can define areas that you want to stand out more as well, without the mess of regular watercolors.
7) Faith Heirlooms Printable Cutouts
Alright, you might be thinking to yourself – wow Leah’s really going here, what a shameless self-promotion – and you would be right. This is a shameless self-promotion – I feel no shame. Here’s why I can honestly say these are some of my favorite supplies to use. I have been using these non-stop in my Bible since we started making them – and not just because I have to. They are a really fun way to add color and imagery to a page without going to a lot of effort. It’s as simple as cutting the shape out and gluing it down. Anything that can help me create a cute page in a time crunch has been my friend lately. Also, did I mention they are adorable, because they are. I mean have you seen the hedgehogs Jeanna created? They melt me heart.
There we have it – my 7 essential supplies for bible journaling! Like I told you, I’m no minimalist so I’m always up for hearing about other great supplies. Comment below what your favorites are!
